    Important lesson learned

I had to paint a couple bodies this weekend, so I figured I'd do like the old days, and give them a squirt of brake cleaner, and wipe dry.

Yeah, no matter what Kevin Talbot says, DON'T DO IT. Fortunately, these are bash bodies, and not my last 1/16 Fiesta body, or I'd have been really ticked. Stick with Dawn or Simple Green.

Did it degrade the polycarbonate? Leave it cloudy?

I used brake cleaner many years ago to get overspray off. The body crumbled in my hands like sugar glass.

Yup, brake cleaner and plastic don't mix.

I would take anything Kevin Talbot says with a grain of salt. Yes, you get some good advice off his vids, but can you honestly say you’d try some of the stuff he does with your own money? I wouldn’t Sponsor money, sure.

Yes, it got a little foggy, and it wound up brittle. The front of my Latrax Rally body popped off in a low-speed crash. The 1/16 Rally body cracked over the wheel arches, and the paint did really weird things on both bodies.

I'm not too upset. The bodies were cheap, and it's no great loss. I'm out about $30 total, I guess.

One of the first bodies I ever painted (about 20ish years ago) was a Hummer for my E-Maxx. At the time, I didn't realize I needed to use a certain type of paint for lexan. I ended up with a horrible paint job! The paint didn't stick in some areas and in other areas, the body became brittle. I think I still have that body stowed away in my E-Maxx box.
