    Traxxas Sledgehammer 2.8 tires

Have I missed these tires being released? I happened across these tires on eBay by accident looking for some rustler parts. I searched Traxxas.com and says they are a slightly bigger, more extreme off-road tire for the Rustler 4x4 and Stampede 4x4. They look pretty nice and they do add a bit of height to the truck. I like the look of the rims.

So am I blind or did you all already kno about these tires

*heres a pic showing the difference on a Rustler 4x4 with 2.8 talons ext

Those tires are new to me . They do look cool though.
I like them bringing back the old Sledgehammer name. That’s a cool bit of Brand Heritage/ Nostalgia

"Interesting" that, in the photo, the 'Sledgehammer' side also has several other upgrades - GTS shocks, blue anodized turnbuckles, blue anodized C-hubs, blue anodized steering blocks, blue anodized rear carriers, etc.

And youíre right, I did notice that in the pic but didnít think anything about it. They are probably just showing that you have options for more customization.

As if i needed to another reason to spend more money on my Rustler.

It doesn't look like they are released yet. Traxxas says out of stock and Hobbytown says they are expected to be available on Feb 27.

Well boys, my set on Sledgehammers will be here Thursday. Hopefully the rain down here in Tn is over with for a while and I can give em a go when they come in!

Tread pattern looks interesting. Kinda a mix between badlands and trenchers

Yes, the tread pattern looks like a mix of badlands and trenchers. I like how they look, rims look to be modified talon ext rims. Should look good on either the rustler 4x4 or stampede 4x4.

Looks cool. Maybe a bit narrow, almost like an enlarged Slash tire. I wonder if they are belted or how bad they balloon.

I would hope when it gets in circulation it comes down in price a bit. Between this and similarly priced Trencher LP I honestly would rather get the proline since some of the proline components are still made state side. If traxxas passes on the savings by doing all the manufacturing in Taiwan and China that would be one thing, but same price for similar tires entirely made in Asia? I don’t know.

Honestly, now sure why it would matter. While manufacturing cost might be lower in Asia, when you add in the cost of transporting to North America, those savings (for the most part) get eaten up. Assuming the same quality, and (approx) the same material, the final cost of each probably ends up being about the same. I'm not saying you're doing this, but, in general, people only seen to focus on the manufacturing cost (cheap Asian pay vs costly american pay), and completely ignore the other costs incurred when importing.

Yes, the "American-made" tires might be manufactured here, but so you really think all the materials used in manufacturing & packaging are also made here? The truth is, some of those materials are probably coming from Asia. As for non-Asian sourced materials, they're probably coming from the same sources that the Asian-manufactured tires are coming from. This doesn't just apply to tires...it can easily apply to any product. People...especially Harley, Indian, Chevy & ford 'diehards'...love to brag about their "American-made" motorcycles/cars...but, what they forget, or don't bother to think about, is where many of the parts and/or materials to make those parts come from. Some come from Europe, but many (probably most) come from...yup, you guessed it...Asian countries.

Some Americans still care. You are free to do as you see fit.

For me, if the quality is similar, price is the same, I prefer the item with more American input. We can’t always have 100% American products but I can try to support the more US value added item.

Else we might all as well go buy traxxas knockoffs from Asia. Note that I’m not anti traxxas at all since bought well in excess of a new 1:1 car worth of traxxas products in the last few years.

How do you like those Losi 22s st tires? They look like good tires. Do they grip well on most surface conditions? How heavy are they? They are cheap on eBay, like 19 a pair. Looking at them but not sure if theyíd be a good backup set of tires.

And my set of Sledgehammers arrived early! So excited! Canít wait for the weather to clear up to give them a go!

Ooooooh, i see you have some duratrax tires in your collection. I have seen some of their tires on ebay but since i have never seen anyone use them so i'm skeptical about buying then and try them out. Are they really good and worth the money? Are they durable? Do they provide good traction and grip?

I haven't really ran them yet. The contact patch is really rounded, not really what I prefer. My preference is more of a flat contact patch, like the belted Trenchers.

Can you tell us if the ballooning is as a trencher/mx proline or less?

For me on a 3500kv 3650 brushless motor, they balloon less than my badlands mx28s.

Those are just the maxx 4s tires aren't they? Just on 12mm hex wheels?

    EDIT:
Never mind. I'm blind, they aren't the same.

Can you confirm that the front and back are both 2.8"? As opposed to tires like what's on the maxx 4s or what short course trucks usually use with a smaller front ID vs back ID.
