Hey Guys! I am new to this forum. I am also new to rc cars and recently bought an X-Maxx 8s. Somehow the set pin came off of the pinion gear and got thrown around that gear cavity and pushed the pinion gear way back on the drive shaft. I had to beat it off with a bench vise on the pinion gear and hammer the driveshaft. So it pushed the driveshaft through the back plastic plate :/ and it also expanded the front of the driveshaft from hitting it. so the motor is kinda now. lol so I was going to get a new stock motor (1275kv), but figured this is a great time to get a upgraded motor and esc combo. I hear hobbywing has a good set up?
I have never swapped out an aftermarket motor or esc. Do I need different mounting plates? Is the new motor diameter the same so I can still use the stock large heat sink and dual fan set up? What else will I need. And what are the best motor and esc combos?
I will mess around with the gearing ratios on the pinion and spur. I have a 16 tooth pinion and a 46 tooth spur I can put on it now..
I am using the proline trencher tires. So they are a bit heavier then the stock ones. Also I put 1 million weight oil in front, rear, and center diff. I am about the change the rear out to 20 million.
Also is it worth it to get a different motor/esc or just use the stock one? Will traxxas rebuild my motor if I send it in? the rear washer is also messed up on the driveshaft and that rear plastic plate. I thought of having them rebuild it and buy a new stock one while i was waiting on them to reubild it. So then i have two... thoughts?
Thanks!!

You’ll need a motor mount if you go with a larger diameter motor. I run a Max5 Leopard and made my own Carbon Fiber fan mounting for the motor fans. I have a build thread out there if you want to check it out.

why the max 5 over the max 6?
I’m using a hobbywing esc and motor which I like so far, that said it’s a lot to spend and the stock setup is very good. It did require a new motor mount and I decided on a belt drive which many caution against.
I’m interested in if anyone has tried the TP power motors and if they have tried them with the stock esc?

Took me awhile to figure out, I use the Tapatalk app on my phone to do it.

That looks like a good one and done purchase but they look to be sold out.
The gears are oversized think?
If you buy individually you’ll need a motor mount, gears, the motor itself and possibly a new mounting place for the esc depending on the size of the motor.

I have this below in my xMaxx with 45 tooth pinionpower!. You'll need the temp motor wire from Traxxas though, Oh and the WFO motor mount..
