Mod 1.5 gearing help please

Hi guys. I’m a little new to the gearing thing and it’s confusing me. Maybe you awesome rc’ers can help me. My current set up is a max 5 esc, leopard 5892 1000kv motor running a 35t pinion and 33t spur all that was available with the corona going on. The motor and esc temps are good no overheating. But I’m not happy with the speed or power. Can someone explain the gearing calculations or explain to me which one I need to go up or down on and what it will affect. Reading it back out loud sounds stupid but I swear I’m not I’m stuck. Please help. Or point me to the right thread. I can’t find anything on the treads that helps me. Tia

Where is your setup from?
The closer to 1:1 gearing (the pinion and spur are the same sizes) means that you have more torque. The higher kv is more speed but higher heat vice versa

I really hope you aren’t running a bigger pinion than spur.... the pinion goes on the motor shaft.

If that gearjng you said is true you have most likely overgeared the motor and will need to gear down.

And what exactly aren’t you happy with?
Too fast? not fast Enough? Too much backflip wheelies?

Pinion gear is like the front gearset on your bicycle. Spur is like the rear. Switch gears and how easy/hard is it? What gives you low-end power and what gives you top speed?

Get a belt drive to try, it’s what I have and i like it. Although [mention]Gripdog7205 [/mention] didn’t have such as good luck he didn’t get the ones from him with the machined shaft for no slipping

Thanks. Here’s my belt drive. I just got 15/30 gears. I had 25/30 and am planing on getting a 25t spur for other combos

Better quality than who?
1.5 gears are stronger and less likely to break teeth.
The wfo gears have a you break it you get it replaced warranty

Acidic01 I’m sure there are some good quality gears out there. Better than wfo? I’d have to see them to pass my own judgement. I have the said gears and I can attest that they are top notch in quality and durability and I like the “if you break it we will replace it policy on them. “

You really should never have a bigger pinion than spur as it puts ton of stress on the motor. The same pinion to spur is the most you should do.

You don’t need a after market motor
He makes gear sets for the stock motor

As you go bigger on the pinion and smaller the spur the less torque you will have. To gain power and torque you would go to a lower pinion and/or a higher spur.

I like the WFO concept, by it avoid a lot of friction in gears, is the best thing of the kit, and the smooth sound I hear in videos I see in the web.

Stronger, wider gears than mod 1. Ie: more contact surface and better gear mesh. Less wear or chance of breakage

No. I made a flat spot myself, with a dermal. and it never thought about slipping. Took maybe 5 minutes. Keep in mind I’m not on the, knock your boy bandwagon, I’m just stating facts. I’m sure whatever issues folks had on here with him are probably due to growing pains or new business startup.

Gearing up (raising the pinion) will just make the motor hotter

I thought so to but like I said earlier I’m currently running a 35p 33s and can bash and play hard 25-30 minutes and motor not over 105 degrees
