Are you guys running non-traxxas batteries?

I have just dipped my toes in the Summit waters and I have 2 questions...

    1. Is there just one version of the 1/10 scale Summit? I've seen some that were different colors and didn't know if they were older versions or not...

    2. How do I run other manufactures batteries that I have laying around? (Staying within the required specs)
Do i get an adapter for the Traxxas connector on the ESC?
Can I even run non Traxxas batteries? Not sure if the speed controller will only see and use Traxxas ID batteries or not...

I'd like to run batteries with the EC5 connector.
I have RC chargers already, so I'm not looking to buy Traxxas specific chargers.

    Thanks guys!

Switch out to your connecter of choice on the esc.

Traxxas Batts can not be charged on other chargers easily,as they have no external balance lead. I use xt60 on everything.

Ok, sounds easy enough to do. I don't have any Traxxas batteries so I'm not worried about that.

    You prefer XT60 to EC5?

Is EC5 overkill on the summit without a brushless? I'm not sure of the current rates the Summit would need stock.

They were handy had a couple Batts that came with them.so I switched 1 connecter instead of 3.I think they will both handle enough amps for our use.
So it's more of a personal preference I think

I use adapters for my lipos. None of my lipos are Traxxas. I have only NiMH in Traxxas. I find some batteries wire lengths are short so the adapter from deans to Traxxas plug helps put less stress on the wires.
My summit's an older 27mhz model. I don't have experience with Traxxas ID.
I use deans on all the other batteries and esc's. My Evx2 is the only running truck with Stock Traxxas plugs. I didn't feel the need to swap the connector.
