TRX4 9.5 Winch with Wired Winch Controller Questions

I知 running a 3s 11.1v Lipo, flysky GT5 receiver. I bought the winch and the wired controller, but on the back of the wired controller, from what I知 reading I need a BEC. But I thought the
whole point of a BEC is to not run separate batts for the receiver and electronics. But I知 already running everything off the battery through the XL5HV.

Do I need the BEC and if so, there lots of them out there, which one would be best?

The xl5 internal bec is not super powerful.
The winch may pull more amps than it can supply,Castle bec will supply up to 10 amps.the xl5 is only 3 or so.
They were not designed for high draw applications like hi torque servos winches etc.you can set it up so the bec is powering the winch only and the rest of the power for servos and rx will be unchanged.

I have the same winch and controller... I plugged it directly on a small 2s lipo.
Only difference, I was using it on an xmaxx

So you used a separate battery for it? Smaller lipo would work, but it says 3s needs a BEC?

    Yes a separate 2s.
I think 3s is overkill just for the winch.
I think for the price of a 2s, 35-50$, u better off going that route than trying to run off receiver and end up burning out you esc which would cost more to replace.
