Sptifire is the plan, not sure how it will turn out, but I fancy giving it a go... Iíve picked up a few decals and it may just work!

Polycarbonate camo colors are hard to come by unless you mix it yourself and airbrush it.

I’ve almost painted up a red Baja and give it the German crosses like the Red Baron’s Fokker Dr1 before...

Good luck and post up when you’re done!

Yes youíre right, thatís been my biggest headache. Itís not ideal but Iíve gone for Tamiya Light Gunmetal and Green for the camo with flat clear. The gunmetal loses quite a lot of itís metallic look with flat clear on the outside, so ends up a bit more like a mid-grey.

I love your Red Baron idea (and at least Tamiya do those colours!! ).

Still very much a work in progress (global shortage of Tamiya PS-5 black paint again!!), but itís slowly taking shape...

But what do I call it?!

    Splash?
    Spitlash?
    Slashfire?
    Slitfire?!

Proper pics to follow once itís finished...

Just slap a little red white and blue on the side of the rear wing and call it a day.

Kinda like this, but placed more towards the front of the tail/wing like the actual one:

Very nice work. I'm either gonna have to censor your photos, or buy me another shell.

Thanks Squeegie, still aiming for your high standards for a clean tidy build to be honest!! Iím enjoying painting a few shells to get better at it, itís much easier to fit in around kids these days than my full size car projects!

Although Iím now thinking this 1:1 project also needs some Sptifire decals to match the Slash...

Very nice.. is that a '76 Series III?

2 kids... one in college and one in high school.

    Here's my 1:1 basket case:

Been plagued with electrical gremlins and have not had time to really work on it in over a year. Now, the rubber hoses have started to deteriorate and have a whole new set of problems to seal with...

Ooh, lovely looking Firebird... Looks like a great project. Yes the Landy is a Ď76, now with a V8 and a few other mods. Currently ten years off the road, but very nearly finished! Also have a classic Mini tucked away as a father-son project when heís a little bit older. Just need a bit more time to play!!

At one point, I wanted to paint my Axial Bomber using a similar paint scheme as these....and thought it would also look great on a Slash. You've done an incredible job on your bodies. And has peeked my interest in doing another body. Whats holding me back is...I CAN'T paint checkerboard patterns. I tried on scraps of lexan, and they were awful!

You are a man of good taste! Love a little old Mini Cooper, loads of fun...

NitroBugg, those paint jobs are amazing - youíre right, theyíd look great on a Slash. Fiddly masking but possible I think. Maybe I need another shell...

I agree. I think that last pic is a 1967 Fastback. Maybe even a GT?

But, if nothing else, I would at least like to paint my wing like the second picture (or maybe just the outside) Think that looks pretty cool.

Did go ahead and order "another" PL Baja Bug body while they still had some left. May trim the fenders on it so I can fit the body a little closer to the chassis and still run stock "size" tires\wheels and not scrub. May be a while before I get to it, but will be planning the design in the meantime.

Last pic is a 68. Why? It has side markers which became mandatory in 68. Also the side scoop look and position (hard to see). The other differences for the GT are not visible. The body changed for 69.

I still have two Baja Bug bodies (Slash and Yeti), but canít decide on how I want to paint. I may just do a one-color-wonder!

I think the addition of the black stripes, and black around the windows was a nice touch!

On the fenders....I see you removed the front fender completely, but how much did you take off on the rear fender? Looks like you started right next to the body on the bottom, and just cut straight back? I purchased a very cheap ($11) "look alike" Baja Bug body off ebay just to experiment with. Didn't want to ruin my $40+ Proline body in case it didn't turn out like I wanted.

Thanks for the kind words chaps.

Regarding the rear arches, yes I left about 3 or 4mm of the arch at the bottom then cut straight back when looking from directly above. Well worth marking it all out with masking tape before cutting!

Hopefully this pic helps a bit

Finally sorted out a proper rear wing today... I gave up waiting for the Proline one to come in stock so I switched it for an Arrma item instead.

Had a bit of body trimming to do, but wanted it to fit quite tight to the body. Think it looks a bit more balanced now, just needs a good bash around the garden!

I like that wing, and how it curves. Nice look! What did you mount it to, the e-buggy mount, Typhoon mount, or something else?

Itís an HPI Vorza Flux wing mount. Took a bit of modifying but I managed to line it up with the Typhon wing holes in the end. Needs a bit more fiddling about with, but a job for another day...
