I run a arrma blx 185 paired with a castle 1515, but you can actually use some of their lower kv 1/10 scale motors. I have used a 3600kv on 4s before, I would not use anything higher than one of their 3800k though. Just make sure it is within the rpm limit. All castle motors that I know of say their rpm limit on the back of the can.

Itís definitely crossed my mind, but I canít really justify it until part of the 3S system dies. One day!!

To be honest 3S is plenty of fun for me most of the time (I must be getting old! [emoji23])...

No that's fine, I only run 6s in my car because I wanna go fast. All of my other cars use 2s. Haha. I just love saying throw a 6s in there as I want to do that to everything.

How well do those dboots hoons hook up on grass and gravel? I've been thinking about getting a set but surely they're more on road only no?

Yes, definitely donít go for the Hoons if you want lots of grip on grass and gravel. I have them on there because I enjoy the challenge of not having a lot of grip, a bit like a drift tyre I guess!

I plan to get a set of something more grippy too, I just havenít found much in the right size with a 17mm hex...

The aero do ok, but the non-aero are more for drifting so they don't to do well.

    We have lots of stickers!!

I donít plan on using most of these, but they will be useful for some of the smaller sponsors logos etc.

The stripes will be masked and painted.

Iím also going to try painting the larger logos. Those Ford ones for example. I got the vinyl cut in reverse so I can use them as a mask on the inside of the shell. Itís worked quite well in the past, although theyíre a bit harder to peel off than masking tape!!

Nope, different compound. The aero although it wears quicker sticker more, and the non-aero is harder and better for drifting. The non-aero also last longer as the tire compound is harder.

Ah thanks for the info. I thought you could get different compounds on the 5-spoke wheel, denoted by the lettering colour. I have the mediums (white lettering) and thereís not a lot of grip on gravel or grass, which makes it fun! [emoji16]

I canít imagine the compound would make a big difference on grass/gravel, more dominated by the lack of tread...

New bodyshell is here! Just a small job to start with, making some holes for the roof scoop.

Method was simple - add some masking tape and a little bit of paint on the mounting pins. Youíre then left with 4 marks where you want the holes. Easily made with a body reamer (awful name! [emoji23]).

Ah, I didn't know that they offered different conpounds for the non-aero. I'm pretty sure the compound I am talking about is the gold, but I don't have any of the non-aero tires to test.

Before you run this one, Id reinforce it with shoogoo so it doesn't tear at the edges. Im pretty sure rally bodies are notoriously fragile in some places

Little bit of progress on the masking and painting...

Hereís a few tips - things I find work well:

    1. Always use decent quality masking tape (I use the Tamiya stuff).
    2. I find that using Tamiya Clear Pearl first acts like a bit of a barrier for bleed-through (if it bleeds its clear!) before adding your colour.
    3. Marking out with tape on the outside of the body (e.g. the stripes) gives you a good guide when working on the inside. Just make sure you have lots of tape!!

Still lots to do, but itís a start!

Haha yeah it does look long! Guessing some of it is an optical illusion because it sits much lower than a regular Maxx.

Glad you found a Subaru body Hualiama, looking forward to seeing your results, should look fantastic!

Little bit more masking and painting done. I use the Tamiya 3mm plastic tape for these curves.

Needing more paint supplies to arrive before I can get much further now, but good to have a little break from the stripes! [emoji1787]

Really really nice work with the tape! I was convinced you were using liquid mask for the curved lines [emoji108]

Are you using heat on the tape at all to help shape it? Whatís your method for ensuring the curve is symmetrical?

Thanks! No, you donít need any heat, the thin Tamiya tape is really flexible. Pretty easy to use to be honest and you can do quite tight curves - Iíve even used it to mask around the edge of windscreens in one go in the past.

Getting things symmetrical is a pain, but I tend to mark things out with a whiteboard marker on the outside and also take a few measurements to key features on the body (e.g. the window line or a wheel arch).

For the side stripes in this case I also stuck some tape on the outside first as a guide (itís much easier to lay things out on the outside!). [emoji106]
