    ESC problem

Today I drove my stock brushless vxl combo about 30 minutes until it stopped to work.

When putting on new battery and press the button on the ESC to turn it on again, the LED blinks green once but the ESC stays off.
I tried different batteries, always same behavior - blinks green once and that's it.
I opened the casing of the ESC, nothing looks burned.

Since I bought it 2 years ago, I drove it 2S and 4S wise - always worked great.

Does anyone know what the error is - or is it just dead?

    Thanxs for your support.

    Welcome the the Traxxas forums!

If running 4S, you could have fried the ESC. It is not rated to go that high.

    Hello Squeegie,

Killed ESC is most probably the situation, but I didn´t run 4S when it stopped working - and 4S is allowed, you get Traxxas Y cables to do so...

Official owner´s manual says on page 25:
"50+mph Battery and Gearing Installation Instructions
    1. Install the included high-speed pinion gear as described in
Pinion Gear Installation Instructions on page 24. Install the
supplied battery as described on page 11.
    2. Install an identical Power Cell Series 1 battery (#2925) sold
separately) in the opposite battery compartment.
    3. Plug both batteries into the Y-harness (sold separately). The
harness connects the two packs in series. The two 7.2-volt 6-cell
battery packs will operate as one 14.4-volt 12-cell battery pack.
    4. Plug the Y-harness into the speed control."

Anyone else ever encountered this problem with the ESC?

Those instructions are for running two NiMH batteries(tra2925)in a series. A 4s LiPo would fry your ESC.

Did you run 4s or 2 2s in parallel?

If you did run 4s power in the VXL-3m, I agree with Squeegie and McCreary, running that much voltage is asking for trouble.

Thank you for your replies - yes you are right.
But my dealer said it will be ok. I am driving it now for nearly 3 years mostly 2S but now and then 4S (2 2S in series with Y cable connector)
Maybe it died now for too much abuse...

I was just looking if somebody else had that symptoms on the ESC - switching it on, one green blink and then dead.
It is the "one green blink! that made me curious

The original ESC is ~130 Euros, are there alternatives with the original motor?

Thanxs for your quick support - I am reading this forums for more than 2 years now and found it always very helpful.

If you're running the #2925 batteries, those are 6 cell NiMH. You shouldn't run a pair of 2s LiPO's in a series. That's what the parallel connector is for.
Do you have the VXL motor, or Titan?

It has the VXL-3m? If so and ran two 2s in series to get 4s. It will burn out the esc. May work for a while but not made for that much voltage.

    Finally problem solved!
The cause was a damaged 2075 servo that shorted the power that came from the ESC.

I replaced it with a Savox 250MG and now everything works fine again.

We had something similar with my son's Modster Truggy, where the broken servo blew the ESC and the Receiver.

Thanxs for all the tips here in the forum
