All,
I need to know whether I need to Silicon Grease my TRX-4.
I recently bought the crawler new and want to know if there is some best practices I should be following.
I don’t want to sound rude but it’s much easier to see then explain. You should watch this video because it explains very thoroughly and it’s how I’m learning!

That was covered in the other link I posted re Diff Greasing, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aq0IusoAf8&t=118s
He get's to the differentials themselves at 3:54. His in fact, are almost grease free, unlike mine that were nicely lubed.
So you know, here's the front diff, with the cover in place (yours are grey)
Here's the rear diff exposed:
Here's how they both looked inside, with what I consider to be plenty of grease:
The locking mechanism is on the left of the main, central bearing and should be grease free.
The "exploded" diagrams that came with the car (and are on line at Traxxas's Support page) give a good idea how the cars go together and, come apart!
But, I wouldn't worry too much about this stuff until you've used it in mud or water! And when you do, the front U/Js (CVs) are just as important, along with the portals. But as has been said, don't worry unduly yet! Plenty of accessorising to be done first!![]()

haha we have 3 vehicles and they are all red as well! Maybe I'll show her the red defender again and maybe she'll change her mind lol. It'll match our 3 red real vehicles! I already have a red UDR, red defender will definitely fit! only one different will be the grey trx6![]()
Thanks for the detailed explaination.
So the pumpkins are the diffs then ?
Are they also referred as the Axles?
I took the defender in water yesterday but it was clear.
Does that count has having to grease the diffs.
Also what is the CV?

Wait quick question, are the central bearings supposed to be free of grease? I put some grease on mine yesterday, the diff locks work well as of now.
Jumping: maneuver and pray it won't break.
Although the crawler kit has a slightly longer wheel base then your Defender, it is basically the same underneath.
You really should go through the assembly manual to familiarize yourself with your rig:

I was not planning in water logging it, just happens to be that way on the day due to rains the previous night.
So the vents were not taped and therefore had to squeeze the water out when I got home.
As for the grey one, I use it on fun rides and blue one where it’s easy terrain.
But am just amazed at how the defender holds up or may be Iam getting better.

Reinhard
I might just use blue tac

I really like Reinhard's magnet system.
But we use a combination of things. Some "scale" rope to hold the travel trunks, thin elastic (that looks a bit like rope!) to hold things like the crate of Coke's and the tent on mine (the Yellow one), a bungy cord "net" for a few things on wife June's and a thin net (from Killer Body) for the smaller items on mine and, double-sided tape, the "spongy" type that allows a bit of leeway in surfaces. I have tried Blu-Tac or similar, but it doesn't like roll-overs!
A couple of the items came with fixing screws and they required drilling of the rack. Not sure I'd go that route again, too "permanent".
The Traxxas items come with screws (axe and spade) and I drilled side flat panels of the rack and the traction boards are held with cable ties....
