VXL strange sound.. something slipping?

All of a sudden, I'm not able to go fast anymore. It makes an unusual sound. I checked the slipper. No issue there. Have you ever experienced this, if so, what could it be?

Hello, in the video I attached in my original post, you could hear the sound by clicking unmute in the top right corner. No missing teeth, gears are aligned.

That’s the slipper clutch. 100%. It’s loose and may be too worn. Try tightening the nut.

If it’s not the slipper, it might be the top shaft roll pin, which can break with too much power and grip and not enough slip in the clutch all at once. Here’s the part in question, if that’s the problem.

For a while I was having a problem on my Pede where the shaft was sliding back and forth in the gear, causing that roll pin to come out of the slots in gear and do that. I ended up shimming the shaft and gear on the pin side bearing. I’ve put the correct gear and washers below as well, just in case.

I’d still look over the slipper first, those can wear and/or glaze up and slip. I just freshened the slipper on my Stampede since the plate and pads were probably the same ones I installed in ‘07 when the VXL trans parts became available (bought the truck 2nd hand in ‘99) and has seen everything from brushed power with 7.2v to VXL-3s brushless power on 3s over the last 13 years.

Try to pull it apart to see if it looks like mine Did, but before taking things apart, hold the spur still while pushing it on a high grip surface. If all the parts in the slipper stay still, but the tires still turn, then it’s the roll pin broke or the top shaft has moved and the roll pin disengaged from slots in the gear. If you see the slipper plate on the pressure plate ( the cast piece that the slipper plate sits on and engages with the top shaft outside of the case) move with the tires, you may need to replace the same parts I did last weekend.
