UK battery supplier & battery suggestions for 8S X-Maxx

    Hi guys

I think I've decided on getting an X-Maxx, but I'm just thinking over a few costs.
Batteries come under that category at the top of the list!

Pretty much I need help deciding on what batteries to run & a suitable UK supplier for them. It's a years since I've had to purchase any LiPos for my E-Revo, so I'm a bit out of touch.
I don't really want to Google up & buy a random battery from a random supplier, I'd much prefer to go with recommendations.

Search function & reading through the forum shows me lots of batteries to look at getting, but I've not found any UK retailers in the suggestions you guys have made.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi

Really i would suggest the Traxxas batts whilst model is under warranty etc.
Overlander batts are also very good.

Oddly enough, one of the UK retailers I use a lot has also said most people use the Traxxas batteries.
    I'm surprised to be honest.

The Traxxas batteries are good quality and the 6700s make the xmaxx run the best in my experience.
An Xmaxx on 5000s is a real let down

Sorry to say this, but the Traxxas batteries are expensive and the C rating is low, good quality, but the performance are not very high. Most of users here uses SMC ones, very high C ratings and affordable prices. I did receive today a pair of GAONENG 6500mAh with 110C in 4S, for 100 euros is a big deal.

Unfortunately smc can't ship to uk. Only in usa.

Imho Traxxas batteries are to expensive for what you get in the C rating and mha...

You see, that's what I expected everyone to say. Now I'm really confused.
These are a few choices from a store I often buy from.

    Traxxas 6700mAh 14.8V 4S 25C LiPo ID Battery...
    140

    Centro 4S 7600mAh 4S 14.8V 70C Hard Case LiPo Battery...
    85

    Gens Ace Hard Case 4S 14.8v LiPo 6750mAh 70C...
    85

    5000mAh 4S 14.8v 100C LiPo Battery - Overlander Extreme Pro...
    110

For an extra few s I could literally get 2 set of some of those for the same price as a pair of Traxxas.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not Traxxas bashing here, but the cost of the batteries just seems excessive still.
That said, do you get half the performance with half the price?

That Traxxas battery listed... For only 25c. Seems super expensive....

I double checked smc ships only usa, Canada and australia.

    https://www.smc-racing.com/index.php...product_id=585

    9700mha 120c Graphene.

$116 usd which is about 98 euro.

I would use the link above as specs for what you can find in your area or online

Biggest thing to keep a eye on is the size and that it will fit.

Genace is ok I only have 1 set of 5000mha that came with my used truck I rarly use them I had to modify them so they would fit.

Yeah, sorry, I should have said...
Didn't look at physical size of those at all, just voltage, capacity and cost.

Gens Ace seem get good reviews and are readily available in the UK. I think the 5000 is a direct fit now from watching a vids.

Just need to get my head round costs still. I think I've decided on getting an X-Maxx though.

I always hear Kevin Talbot saying he loves the Zop lipos (link is USA but you can change your location)...

I found this one even cheaper $32.99 vs. clicking on Kev's link from his video description which is $39.99 so the total is based on your location...
    https://www.banggood.com/ZOP-Power-1...r_warehouse=CN

    https://www.banggood.com/ZOP-Power-1..._warehouse=USA

They are the cheapest I've seen BUT they come with a different connector so you will have to buy an adaptor or change them like he does in his videos.

And then his other link is...
    https://*********.com/en_us/*******-...asc=5726340493

Kev's latest X-Maxx, he links his batteries in the description...

P.S. I also own & LOVE SMC lipos but I'm in the USA

If you decided to a X-Maxx, you never go wrong, is a really monster and one of the best RC cars of the market today. I think if you want a really good Lipos, go for a GENS ACE or CENTRO, very good performance and affordable price, the Overlanders are good choice too, if you assumes the price, of course.

    Juanmacine,

Those lipos fit in the battery tray ok? I like mine snug like the SMC's so they don't move around.

I found them cheap from a UK place I've used in the past. Just interested in how they perform.

Today I did run with it and performs excellent, high power, I'm very satisfied with this batteries. Fits perfectly in the trays, a little tight, but perfect.

So I think I've decided on Gens Ace. They seem to be a reasonable price & are readily available in sorts of sizes.

    Next question...
Should I be using Hard Case batts? I've always had them for my E-Revo, but the the battery tray on the X-Maxx looks pretty bomb proof.

Actually, there's another question I've not quite picked up on yet...

I see most running running 6000 to 7000mAh batteries.
You can pick up 2 sets of 5000mAh batts for the same price as those, which means you get 10000mAh for the same money.
Ok, you have to swap the batteries out half way through, but that's hardly effort. Surely if the C rating on a 5000mAh battery is something like 50C, there's no issues around performance?

If I'm not missing anything as described above, I think I've found some Gens Ace (Soft Case if that's ok?) that look like they will be perfect.
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to be sensible around money so I can justify the expense of an X-Maxx.

Hard case will give some more protection over soft... But that's more if they come flying out of the truck.

I like going highest c rating and mha I can afford.

Higher c rating to me is a bit more important than mha.

I like to have at min 2 sets of batteries. That way I can be feild charging one set while I'm using the other.

Remember size is important...41mm x 51mm x 172mm. Must be this or smaller. Don't go even 1mm larger

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think I'm over complicating this.
I've had RC cars for over 20 years, just never spent anything like Xmaxx money on one. Even my erevo was a V1 with brushed motors to start with. It was cheap compared to the modern brushless V2.

I googled the Xmaxx batt tray size and thought it was 197mm x 51.5mm x 44mm.
    Did I get bad info?

I forgot, here's a link to the battery I've spotted. There's a few UK places selling this one, a couple within driving range.

    Linky

I've found it with XT90 connectors already connected, I'm quite happy to break the soldering iron out.

The measurements I gave were from the smc battery size which is snug and almost fills the tray. but fits well.

Giving a size we know that works... If you got the tray size then you know it what I needs to be under... Don't forget the wires need room out of the end.

Sometimes going down the research rabbit hole will do start making you wonder some times....

The batteries you put in this link fits perfectly in the X-Maxx battery trays.

Nope, you have it right. That's the official size...

    X-Maxx Battery Tray:
    197mm L x 51.5mm W x 44mm H

...but like Acidic posted, you can fudge a little as my SMC lipo is a little bigger in height (48mm) but is very snug and you can squeeze something slightly bigger maybe or reverse the battery hold downs to fit a bigger lipo, height wise.

Hey Acidic, I copied and pasted your measurements to my Evernote, just in case on the other dimensions, thx for those!

Those are cheap enough and available, so I might give those a go for a first set of batts.
Definitely decided an xmaxx is coming my way. Just getting a bit more prepared for buying 1 now.
