velineon 380 motor seized up, what to do? Please advise

It seems I've overheated the brushless 380 motor in my 1/16 slash and a new on will be required. Should I
1. Send it into Traxxas and get a new one, for about $50 all in
2. Get the rebuild kit
3. Try to find a suitable 3rd party motor? Is such available?

Personally, I'd go the Traxxas replacement route for $50. Not a bad deal, hassle free. Pop the new one in and be on your way (and be more mindful of the temps going forward).

How? Where? All I ever find are $70-$80 for just the motor. Ebay ones are $60 used even tho they are posted as "NIB".

I was speaking of a non-Velineon branded motor. I have dozens. LOL!

I'm curious also. I haven't found much out there for anything that can compare to the Traxxas 380 motor. All those 1/16,1/18 motors are too small to power the Traxxas 1/16 models. The only ones I found that are the same size are NeuMotors and they aren't cheap!

My build I just used a 540 sized VXL motor. Fits great. Of course I have the matching esc.

Since I have the big block motor plate, does anyone know the mounting hole spacing for the VXL motor plate?

The 1/10th scale VXL motor fits the big block motor plate but the plastic end has to be removed because the shocks are in the way. But the 380 VXL motor can not fit the big block motor plate.

Update: I bought the Traxxas rebuild kit (it consisted of 2 bearings and two screws). Upon opening the motor and removing the rotor, I discovered it was split lengthwise into two pieces. So I boxed up the motor and sent it to Traxxas. The will be sending me a new for $50.

That's generally how the magnets fail. I didn't have any 380 sized rotors in my parts box. I do have quiet a few 5000kv motors though. I'll probably stick with the big block. Got to get the diffs shimmed and center diff installed before I even power it up for the first time.

I have the heat sink and thermal paste, I hope that solve the overheating problem

Well I received the new 380 moto from Traxxas and I installed this heat sink with a fan

I got from Amazon. Two 2S lipos later, it got only slightly above ambient.
