The stock drive shafts are ok, but due wear quickly.

Traxxas make some decent steel shafts if you are going to run a lot or if you run 3S. They cost a bit more than plastic but should run for years with normal use.

It looks like a Stampede 2wd. Driveshafts connect the gearbox to the wheels and spin the tires, so the front does not have any driveshafts. Petertje60 was right that the steering block broke, but the link posted was for the 4wd version: https://traxxas.com/products/parts/3736

RCWilly is right. it is a 2wd model. Instead of the Aluminum Steering Blocks, you could also get the cheaper rpm option.

That's the point. Its made of 100% nylon I think. that way it flexes instead of breaking in a crash.

I like rpm parts, never had one break. Also a lot cheap than aluminium.

Traxxas aluminum parts are made of 6061-T6 aluminum, which is an alloy between aluminum, magnesium, and silicon (if you have a bit of chemistry background, it consists mainly of Al atoms with some Mg and Si atoms spread out in between the Al atoms to reduce its bending properties), which can take much more of a beating than regular aluminum without bending.

Of course, plastic is much cheaper, and the part is fairly easy to replace, so you can't go wrong with either of them. It's just down to personal preference. The stock plastic is a little hard/brittle, but the rigidity is close to where I want it to be. I think RPM plastic is too soft. If it is under too much stress, it will bend and stay bent/rebound very little (which could take out other parts).

I love the looks of aluminum of course.

But, the rigid aluminum either transfers the shock farther into the suspension and drivetrain or bends in a crash.

It’s just a preference.

I use a mixture on my 4Pede and all plastic on the X except the motor mounts and servo horn.
