Is the Ultimate worth the extra $130 over buying the regular 4X4? I won't be racing it, just bashing it. I know the Ultimate comes with a lot of upgraded parts but I also noticed it includes the Bluetooth module and factory installed telemetry but I can do this myself for a whole lot cheaper. So just wondering if I was missing anything.
Whether, or not, it's "worth it" has a two-fold answer. On one side is the 'value', and on the other side is the 'personal'.
Starting with the value side, it's most definitely worth it. To buy the standard Slash 4x4 VXL, and then add all the upgrades that Traxxas has already taken care of, would cost CONSIDERABLY more. And, since you mentioned you'll be bashing, not racing, those upgrades ARE for bashing...they are not "race" upgrades.
On the personal side, only you can determine that. For one person, it would be "ok". For another person, it works be a waste of money. For another person, it would be an exceptionally-outstanding deal. And, for another person, while good/great to have, it would be out of their price range. Only you can determine if it's "worth it" for you.

Good point then as I thought those upgrades were more for racing but if they strengthen everything then I think the Ultimate would be worth it for me. Hmmmm...decisions, decisions.
Thx for the quick reply!
If you want to stick with the TQi radio, it's definitely "worth it". If not, it's a bit trickier of a choice.

Yes, I'll be using the TQi radio, thx! Looks like I'm gonna get an Ultimate then!
More than worth it. You get
LCG chassis
Better servo
Telemetry stuff
GTR shocks
Aluminum carriers and caster blocks
Sway bars
Better a arms
Better drive Shafts
No way you can get all that upgraded for 130 dollars.

Everyday's a gift, thus now is called the present.
Oh, it's the normal upgraded CV shafts. I thought that there was another type.
Wait, no it doesn't! Look at this picture!

There are another type now that they rolled out, but neither that new one or the one referenced above comes on the ultimate. Only the heavy duty plastic splined ones do.
Here are the brand new ones ($80 for each set), although admittedly they look thoroughly solid: https://traxxas.com/news/hoss-extrem...ty-driveshafts

I will never own a Slash 4x4 that is not an Ultimate edition. All of the extras are worth the extra cost.

Unless you only use 2s LiPos, but who does that?
Too bad they stopped production of the Platinum Edition Slash 4x4...
Just get the Ultimate and let 'er rip!![]()

The Ultimate was my first Slash. Then later on, I decided to get another Slash as a project car, so I got a Platinum, and added a 3rd party TX\RX. I guess I was lucky to get one when I did if they don't make them any more. Never regretted either purchase, and have enjoyed them both. I would definitely get another Ultimate if I decided I needed another Slash.
So for spits and giggles, I added up what all the upgrade parts that come on the Ultimate. Altogether they would cost at retail if you purchased them separately an extra $423.00.
Yup. $423.00
That includes: F&R GTR Shocks, 2075R Servo, HD Driveshafts, HD Suspension Arms, Alu. Chubs, Alu. Steering Blocks, Alu. Rear Hub Carriers, Alu. Wheel Nuts, F&R Sway Bars, Alu. Bearing adapters, Traxxas Link and Telemetry Sensors. There might be more added, but that's what I came up with just a quick look.
So you spend an extra $130.00 more for the Ultimate Slash 4x4 over the base VXL model and get $293.00 parts for free. Thats a pretty good value added deal if the buyer intends to eventually purchase that sort of thing anyway.
