Mod 1.5 Pinion on Mod 1 Spur

Hi everyone, am I asking a stupid question here: I changed my motor to one with an 8mm shaft and thus changed my pinion gear to a mod 1.5 as they are a lot easier to find on 8mm. I am still running my 54T original spur after a year. Is it find if meshed properly to run the mod 1.5 and mod 1 spur together?

I'm not sure how your going to do that? MOD 1.5 and MOD 1 have different gear pitches (space from tooth to tooth). If you try running different pitch gears together you just going to have trouble and ruin the gears you have. If you changed to a MOD 1.5 pinion you would need to change the spur to a MOD 1.5 also.

You can't use a mod 1,5 pinion on mod 1.0 spur gear, this never fits.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I thought the pitches might differ. As a temporary fix I might just drill out my 5mm pinions, they do seem to have some beef left to remove.

Just had a look at the two together (first time seeing a mod 1.5 in person and man, don't know how I thought that idea would ever work!

Also be careful drilling, that hole enlargement process has to be absolutely center. Any slight deviation, your gear set will go POW! Shrapnel everywhere.

Almost best to do on a lathe.

Totally agree with this, is prefer to buy a 1.5 mod set of gears.

Do you guys know where I can buy 8mm mod 1 pinions from? Looked at JJ Customs but they have a $300 flat shipping fee! Keep in mind I'm in South Africa. Thanks
