ESC failed??

Hey,
I installed the VXL3 motor and ESC from a Slash into a 2WD Stampede. I plug the battery NiMH battery in and I get no sign of life. I don't think I need to use a LiPo battery, do I?

My question is, how do I know if the ECS is faulty?

If so, which new ESC/motor combo go I go with?

What nimh r u running? I believe that it needs a 9cell nimh so a 9.6v 5000mah hump nimh. If that don’t work your ESC is messed up. If u still want 3s buy a new Traxxas 3s esc+motor or buy a castle.

I was trying with the 7 cell nimh. I would definitely consider moving up to 3S. Do you know the Traxxas part number by chance?

The VXL3s doesn't need a 9cell NiMh battery. Here is the ESC specs.

VXL-3s WATERPROOF ESC SPECIFICATIONS
Input Voltage:
NiMH 4-9 Cells (4.8 to 10.8 Volts DC)
LiPo 2-3 Cells (7.4 to 11.1 Volts DC)

The esc should at least power up if the battery is good.
Does the light come on? Colour?

There is no sign of life. No light, no beeps...nothing. I will try a lipo and see, maybe the battery I tried last night is just no good.
I know the lipo I will try is good as it brought another beast back to life last night before, it made beeps before I unplugged it.
Will try tonight and let you know later or tomorrow.

Yup, tries with a lipo and the ESC is no good. I see Castle ESC/Motor package is priced better then Traxxas replacement. What would be a good combo for regular rippin and bashin? There are so many options...
Any help would be appreciated!
