    8s on a small vehicle

I have a castle 1717 with 8s on a maxx (not an x-maxx, regular maxx). I'm currently using 2x 5200 4s batteries. I would like to go with something smaller. How small can I go? What would the limiting factor be? I've read that too small of batteries can hurt the esc with voltage fluctuations.

If your using the Castle ESC you could run a data-log of the current draw the truck is using. That would help you on deciding on what smaller batteries and their "c" rating would be sufficient to work.

On my latest log, I have an average ripple of 0.27v and a max ripple 1.15v

What were the amps? That will tell you what the batteries need to supply for power.
